Our Story

A few years ago, my friend April Yen recommended HelloTalk, a language exchange app, to me. I signed up and tried to connect with as many people as possible. Joaquin and I became language exchange partners. We practiced English and Spanish together for many months. After a few months, our friendship moved to WhatsApp where we could talk about things closer to our hearts.

Things really blossomed when I went to the Dominican Republic for spring break March 2020. Yes, that's right when the pandemic hit and most countries started locking down their borders. I thought it wouldn't matter if we never met. I just wanted to tour the island. But when we met, there was an instant bond. Now, I feel like it's only ever been him and me. When I came home, we immediately started planning for my next flight to DR.

I prayed for a partner who would balance me and help me grow as a person. Today I can't shut up my joy for how grateful and blessed I feel. The last two years have been a wonderful adventure, and we've savored the time we spent together in the Dominican Republic. Now we're going to be in Austin, Texas for the next stage.
